Local police said in a news release that just before 2:45 a.m., an unwelcome visitor forced his way into a home unannounced. He had been in a prior relationship with one of the occupants, and an argument ensued between them in the basem*nt of the home.

When a relative of the former partner, who also lived at the residence, heard the argument, they went to the basem*nt to try to intervene.

Police said the man then pulled a handgun from his waistband and pointed it at the relative’s head.

The man then moved to leave the residence and as he did, he left the room in the basem*nt and pointed the gun at his former partner, police said. He then fired a bullet past the former partner, striking the door of the room that still contained the relative, police recounted. Luckily, the bullet did not hit them.

The man then fled the house on foot.

Police were called and searched the area but could not find the man.

Police continued to investigate and learned where the man might be. A search warrant was granted at an address near Parkway and Princess Street, and just after 1 p.m., the Kingston Police emergency response and street crime units found the man.
