I used exactly same measurements but the mixture was wet enough. So I added around 3 tsp more maida to make dough out of it. The cookies got baked but now after cooling, they have become hard. Could you tell me what could be the issue?

      Hi Aarthi,

your recipe seemed rreally good and simple so i tried it. i'm not muh of a baker but have started off late and have 2 limitations, i cant bake with egg and i only have a microwave.
Anyway so that attracted me to your recipe for this festive season, so i put together the ingredients as per the recipe but the dough wouldnt hold, it was like a thicker cake batter consistency so i added more maida (dont know exact amount, just kept adding till i got the dough consistency as per your pix). And then i baked them, but :
      a. some of them got burnt slightly
      b. all of them gott really hard after cooling and are inedible 🙁

Please guide me n how to get the right crumbly cookie texture.

And i must say great job for sharing these innovative recipes. (esp for someone like me who is a not much into cooking and baking) Thanks !

    24. Aarthi

@AnonymousI think u must have added too much butter or milk so it has got wet. Use just the exact amount and it will work.

      Reply

    25. Sumi

      @Anonymous

The reason for it getting burnt may me because of the combination of milk, sugar and butter in which you have to be judicious if your batter does not come out as per the consistency shown in the picture. The best is to follow the dry ingredients and wet ingredients procedure.
Sieve the powdered sugar, add the melted butter and milk in the bowl. Similarly,in another, sieve the other dry ingredients like the flour, cocoa in another.
Then gradually add the wet mixture to the powders and prepare the dough to get the required consistency before making it into to the cookie. Adjustments can be made here by lessening wetness by retaining the last few drops of the wet mix in the 1st bowl or adding a shake of flour to increase dryness.
      Hope it helps!

Tried this today. The first one got burnt in the center after 1min in microwave. Smoke was coming out from microwave oven. And I couldn’t really remove it from the mug. The 2nd one was still soft after 1min in microwave so I microwaved it a little longer. Was soft and I did it a little longer. Center part still gets stuck to the bowl. Any idea? Issit over or under greasing OR due to timing? Same mix for both cookies. Btw thanks for this recipe.

Place it on a microwave-safe plate lined with parchment paper or a microwave-safe paper towel. Microwave Time: Microwave the cookie dough for about 45 seconds to 1 minute, depending on your microw.

How do you tell if a cookie is baked enough? ›

If it feels set and springs back slightly, it is likely done. Avoid pressing too hard, as this can deflate the cookie. Light Cracking – Look for light cracks on the surface of the cookies. If you see them, the cookies have been baked long enough and are ready to be taken out of the oven.

Does microwaving a cookie make it soft? ›

Just wrap a cookie or two in a damp paper towel and then put them in the microwave for about 10 to 15 seconds. The moisture from the paper towel should soften the cookies right up. So if you wonder how to soften hard cookies quickly? Microwave is the way!

Can you microwave instead of baking? ›

Yes! You can successfully use microwaves for baking. Microwaves aren't just for reheating leftovers or popping corn; they can be your secret weapon for quick and efficient baking. The key lies in understanding the nuances and adapting traditional baking recipes to suit the microwave's unique capabilities.

What happens when you put dough in the microwave? ›

Dough gets its rise from leavening agents and a process called proofing where you cover the dough and place it in a warm, moist environment. You can use a microwave to make dough rise by placing the dough and a cup of boiling water inside the microwave and closing the door.

    Is microwaving cookies good? ›

The Best Ways to Reheat Cookies

Place the cookie on a microwave-safe plate and heat them in the microwave for 10-15 seconds. Be careful not to overheat the cookies, as they can quickly become hard and chewy. Oven: This method is especially great for bigger cookies and larger batches of cookies.

How to make cookies without an oven? ›

Place skillet on the stove and set the burner to low heat. Cover with a lid (aluminum foil works, too) and cook for 15-20 minutes, carefully flipping once halfway through or when the edges start to get golden brown. This was the trickiest part, but I found 16 minutes total to be the sweet spot.

Can you microwave the complete cookie? ›

#Spoontip: heat the cookies up in the microwave for 10-15 seconds and receive extra gooey-ness.

What does an underbaked cookie look like? ›

Colour: Raw or undercooked cookies tend to have a pale appearance, lacking that golden or slightly browned hue that indicates they're fully baked. Watch for cookies that still have a doughy or unbaked look. Texture: Touch the surface of the cookies gently.

How do you fix undercooked cookies? ›

My cookies was underdone / under baked after a bake for about 7-8 minutes. To save these cookies, I let them completely cool, and then bake them again in 160 degrees C for about 5 minutes, and then leave it in the oven after I turn it off. The remaining trapped heat in the oven will continue to cook the cookies.

How do you test if cookies are done? ›

Open up the oven, pull out the rack a bit, and push the sides of the cookie very lightly with a spatula or your finger. If the edge stays firm and doesn't fall inwards, then your cookies are done. If you leave a noticeable indentation, then your cookies likely need a few minutes more in the oven.

What happens if you microwave hard cookies? ›

There are a few common methods for softening cookies, including microwaving them, heating them in the oven, and placing them in an airtight container with a slice of bread. However, not all of these methods work equally well. Microwaving or steaming cookies can cause them to become too soft or even mushy.

What is the secret to soft cookies? ›

Cornstarch helps product soft and thick cookies. Using more brown sugar than white sugar results in a moister, softer cookie. An extra egg yolk increases chewiness. Rolling the cookie dough balls to be tall and lumpy instead of wide and smooth gives the cookies a bakery-style textured thickness.

Can you microwave Pepperidge Farm cookies? ›

    A nice soft baked cookie

It's like having fresh baked cookies, but without the hassle of dealing with the cookies hardening too much after cooling down. Also you can put the cookie in the microwave for a couple seconds, and then it's just melts goodness.

Why can't you cook cookies in a microwave? ›

You could cook cookies in a microwave but they won't be anything like a cookie out of a conventional oven. You actually can bake brownies or “bar cookies” in a microwave but they won't brown even when they're cooked through. Individual cookies would be more difficult because of the tendency to spread while cooking.

What happens if you don't cook cookie dough? ›

Raw Dough Can Contain Germs That Make You Sick

Flour doesn't look like a raw food, but most flour is raw. That means it hasn't been treated to kill germs that cause food poisoning, such as Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Salmonella.

How do you treat flour for edible cookie dough in the microwave? ›
